Mining for stone in Zimbabwe is a laborious process given the poor state of the economy. Much of the work is done by hand as electricity and fuel are in short supply. The stone is heavy and the work requires intensive use of manpower. This particular mine is one of the few Verdite mines in Zimbabwe. This pic was taken a few years ago but it is among my favorite pics of rural Zimbabwe and it gives a good idea of whats involved in stone mining.
